COLLECTIONS

The Horniman has extensive collections: Anthropology comprising 90,000 objects, Natural History with 250,000 specimens and Musical Instruments with over 8,000 instruments and documents. In addition there are objects in Learning and books in the Library that relate to the three main collections.

Our collections are of national importance, with the Anthropology and Musical Instrument collections having Designated status. Objects that are not on display are kept in storage at the Museum’s Study Collections Centre.

Collections Online

Our Musical Instrument and Chinese Anthropology collections are now available to search and browse. We are currently developing our online collections and further sections will be added over the coming months.
